It has been three months since Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico, but the catastrophe continues. The southern coastal city of #Humacao used to draw tourists and Puerto Rican vacationers every year. Now, the world-renowned resort community is a ghost town.
.
It’s high tourist season, but no one sits by the three-tiered pool. At the area’s largest hospital, four of the five floors are closed. Long lines still form for ice and water. “No hay luz” (there is no power) is a repeated refrain from almost everyone.
.
But amid the despair, many Puerto Ricans remain hopeful that they can overcome. “Claro que nos vamos a levantar!” Sen. José Dalmau Santiago said. “Of course we will rise up!”
