Was a real honour to meet New Zealand sporting hero Dick Tayler and hold the Queen's Baton for the Commonwealth Games at a special function here in Christchurch, my home city yesterday!

Dick Tayler won the 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games at QE11 here in Christchurch (New Zealand) in 1974 in a spectacular race in 27.46!!! My Dad and many kiwis were watching the race live at the packed stadium and thousands and thousands were glued to the TV and radio around the country! He wasn't the favourite to win so was such an amazing surprise for our country.

Also very special to hold the Queen's Baton that has travelled from Buckingham palace to all of the Commonwealth countries around the world before going around Australia from Christmas day for the last 100 days before the Games next April.
