My amazing friend @riding.wild lost everything in the wildfires in order to save her horses . “We lost our home to the Ojai fire. Childhood photos, family archives, my fathers documents, computers and years of footage, clothing, jewelry, material possession... all lost in the flames. It is surreal to have memories and things we feel define who we are taken away from us in the breath of fire. But in this sadness, this seeming loss, unveils a truth like the manzanita birthing from the charred soil. Community, strength and love is what not only remains, but what has shown through with resounding strength. In this time of chaos and tragedy, there is support, compassion, and little miracles to carry us through the loss and uncertainty. The families and animals of Ojai, Ventura, and Santa Paula have suffered beyond words. But this suffering tethers us to the most phenomenal part about being human... our hearts opening with love. Thank you dear friends and friendly strangers for holding my mother and I through this time of loss and rebirth.
