God blessed us with the perfect angel baby and I feel it in my heart to share what the past week has looked like here at the Hendrix household! ?? Valentina loves to sleep, makes the cutest noises when we change her and only cries when she's cold, hungry or dirty. ?This week we conquered breastfeeding and you don't understand how happy I am about this! When I was pregnant I was worried about it and how it would work, if it would hurt, etc. It's human nature for unfamiliar things to make us uncomfortable so I was nervous! After we had her and saw how teeny she was (with a mild case of jaundice) we had really no choice but to formula feed her in the hospital every 2 hours for the first couple days. My fear of bottle feeding came to life and instantly I felt discouraged that I wasn't going to be able to breastfeed because of it (thanks to reading into all the myths out there). I'm not the type to quit so whatever small amounts of colostrum I got, I would feed it to her in a syringe and continue skin-to-skin time practicing latching with her. Even if nothing came out yet, her being on the breast helped signal a message to my brain to bring on the milk! I was tired but I was on a mission because breastfeeding was something I reallyyyy wanted to do! So every two hours for the first few days, my routine consisted of pumping for 15 minutes. I was only getting drops which I heard was normal but it felt discouraging at times. Then by day 3 when we got home my breastmilk finally came through! Yay! ? Now she's 100% on a breast milk diet and the transition has been a breeze! Why am I sharing this? As a first time mom, everything is so new and sometimes it's easier to quit than commit. So many people told me, "don't bottle feed!", "Don't pump!", "Don't give her a pacifier!" & guess what - I did all these things and it was FINE! I am so happy I didn't give up. There are a lot of painful breastfeeding stories out there that are pretty discouraging for new moms. I read into ALOT of them & I'm glad I trusted my own intuition in the end. Hope this inspires anyone who needs it. Whatever you decide, don't let your fears drown your faith during the process! Mom's rule✊
