I was honored to team up with Kevin Livingston from the non-profit 100 Suits for 100 Men. Previously I donated suits to them to distribute to formerly incarcerated men who are in the job search process.
As part of my Million Dollar Pledge, I donated $33,000 to his organization and part of that was recently used to to provide a special meal to those incarcerated at the Rikers Island NYC jail facility.

The criminalization of people of color is one of the most pressing issues facing our country today. Rikers Island—a 400-acre penal colony less than 4 miles from Manhattan—cages over 77,000 people during any given year. Eighty-five percent of those held there are low-income, pre-trial detainees that have not been convicted of a crime. The island is emblematic of the outcome of criminalizing policies that attempt to isolate and invisibilize people of color all while supporting larger systems of racial oppression.
