“I’m super inspired by simple moments in daily life,” 29-year-old Amelia Giller tells us. “I love to think about the dog looking out the window for its owner or the woman going shopping alone. It's so fun to put yourself in another person's shoes and be inspired just by their perspective.” @ameliagiller also enjoys looking at other illustrators like Xoana Herrera, Audrey Lee, and Kaitlyn Mahoney for ideas; she also started a female-centric illustration collective called “Get It Girl” for even more daily inspo. Her advice for growing your own community: “Be yourself! I hate when people use that ‘follow/unfollow method.’ It's so disingenuous. I have had a better time just following and interacting with accounts that I genuinely like. If they follow me back — hey, that's great. If they don't, that's OK, too. I genuinely believe that putting your artwork out in the world and having a good attitude will bring good things your way!” Her biggest passions include drawing and women’s rights and their access to proper healthcare. “I was brought up in Texas and have lived in California for about 5 years. Seeing both sides of the political spectrum has made me more passionate about keeping places like Planned Parenthood open and supporting feminist politicians,” she said. Her proudest accomplishment to date is her ability to build her stamina in running. “I never thought I could run a mile — even half a mile,” she explained. “But I have worked up enough to run 5 miles! I feel like superwoman.” What is your proudest accomplishment to date? Comment below! #ShineTheory
