The pair were exhibited in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the 1949 winter market and garnered significant media attention with headlines proclaiming the arrival of “new amoeba, cloud forms” to the furniture world. “Screwballish to some, of extraordinary plastic beauty to others,” wrote the editors of Interiors, “the upholstered furniture designed by Isamu Noguchi for the Herman Miller Furniture Company is extremely adaptable to a variety of room arrangements.”
