Todays #Gtip is about coat maintenance. Dogs come in with matts in the coat ALL the time, like every dog. An easy way to get the matts out is to use a jagg'ed edge razor tool that splits the matt up into smaller matts for you to brush out. Although easier this is very damaging to the coat. Our whole job is coat care, at least its my philosophy. Using a slicker brush and comb you can work out even the severe of them all with no damage to the coat or dog. In no time you will develop proper technique and speed. Also, time is money. When it comes to de-matting I charge double my hourly rate on top of any service. When a new client comes in I love to take 5 min and explain the importance of brushing and combing on a daily basis. I show them how to properly brush their dog to avoid matts. A lot of the time people don't even realize the matts are there!
