While in Manhattan I cannot help but reminisce on the peaceful simplicity of life here. In Mollo, Indonesia, there is an obvious void of material wealth. The community lives off of natural resources, grown and maintained by entire families. From staple grains to livestock including pigs, cows, and chickens, and a variety of vegetables, all of the food originates here.
While traveling to places like this, sometimes I wonder; we as a Western culture presume that we have elevated forms of living, yet in regions where you are very wealthy if your family income breaks $5,000 a year, the level of happiness and genuine gratitude feels much more present than the buzzing streets of Manhattan.
Communal love and appreciation for natural resources creates a much stronger sense of wealth than materialism.
I just arrived to NYC for a series of events that I am excited to attend, like the @Glamour Magazine #woty2017 event tonight. Though, sometimes amidst the city madness, I find peace of mind and purpose through trips like these.
