Aloha! And Hau‘oli Lā Heleuī (Happy Halloween)! My name is Kula Barbieto (@hokuhikiandthesea) and I've been flying the friendly skies with Hawaiian Airlines for 15 years. Since this #TakeoverTuesday falls on Hau‘oli Lā Heleuī, I will be sharing with you the many "costumes" I wear when it is not Halloween.
When I am not flying over the ocean, you can usually find me in the ocean. Sometimes I'm a fisherman, or a surfer. A diver, or stand-up paddler. You can find me on the shoreline dressed as a game warden, protecting our beaches and keeping them sustainable for Hawai‘i. Sometimes I'm a voyager traveling the oceans by wa‘a (canoe) on Hawaii's Hōkūle‘a and Hikianalia. Or adventuring on horse back, in Ka‘a‘awa Valley. Sometimes I'm a volunteer, cleaning beaches. Or a coconut hat weaver, so that we can protect our skin while we clean the beach. I am an Auntie and a daughter. A gardener, and a cook. In all these costumes, I am sometimes a teacher, but always a student. But my favorite costume is the one that I share with my ‘Ohana (family) - my sister, @pacificawander. Because not only does this costume let us time travel, it takes us around the world 😉 This costume gives us the opportunity and the gift of time to wear many other costumes in our lives. The next time you are on a Hawaiian Airlines flight, take a good look at your Flight Attendant, because you never know what other costumes they wear.
