For this week’s installment of #TigersFanFridays, meet Krista Lawrence and her husband, Bret, who have the kept the #Tigers a part of their lives from the time they dated through their engagement and wedding. When they first met, Bret was a longtime Tigers fan. It didn’t take long for Krista, an avid baseball fan herself, to join Bret in rooting for the Tigers. When Krista said “the perfect first date would be a baseball game” Bret took notice and purchased Tigers tickets for a game the upcoming season. And when Bret’s birthday came during the winter, Krista surprised him with a trip to Florida and the chance to see a Spring Training game in Lakeland (where they caught a baseball). So it was fitting that Bret asked Krista to marry him at a Tigers game, thanks to a little help from his friends. Krista, having no idea what Bret had planned, received a text from her friends, who had tickets to a game at Comerica Park. They all made the trip down together and convinced Krista to get a picture in front of the Tiger statue at Gate A, where Bret got down on one knee to propose. The Tigers won, they caught another foul ball and “the day was perfect,” she said. Fast forward to their wedding in July of this year, when Krista and Bret were married in front of a backstop they created, on a field mowed to look like a baseball diamond with a local umpire to officiate the wedding. The guys wore Tigers jerseys and the girls wore baseball shoes. Save the date invites were sent out as magnets that looked like tickets. They set up a “will call” for guests to pick up their tickets before the wedding. The menu included food from a concession stand and everyone ended the night with a game of baseball on the field. They had boxes of Cracker Jacks as small thank you gifts. “What kind of wedding would it be if it wasn't a Detroit Tigers theme?” she said. “We love the Tigers and try to catch as many games as we can!”
