When hurricane Harvey hit, I remember being racked with worry ...guilt.....thousands of miles away in a very dry and very safe Canada ...I remember feeling frustrated and powerless to help my hometown and those in need. I donated, I texted, I posted...but it didn't seem like enough. I couldn't imagine what the people of Houston went through, especially ones whose homes and all their belongings washed away...the only solace I had was seeing the city of Houston coming out in droves to help their neighbors in need, I've never seen a city respond like that to a disaster and it made me proud of my city, my Houston.
I did get my wish to travel back home this week and help, an opportunity to volunteer with the #RedCross and serve those still in shelters and see first hand Harvey's effects. Though what I saw was still heartbreaking... I also saw the thousands of selfless and generous souls who came before me to help and rebuild. So, thank you, to everyone, if you donated, if you volunteered, even if you prayed. Your heart has filled mine and I know my hometown, my city, my Houston is being rebuilt from the heart. Stronger than ever. ❤️ #HoustonStrong
