Looking at old photos from back when I used to drink+get high is a tough one for me. If you look at the first 2 photos here, at first glance, I looked like I was probably just having a good time... but if you look closely, I was obviously desperately hurting.
The 3rd photo is of me now. 10 years of sobriety under my belt, and couldn't be more happy/grateful for it.
So, when the @peggyalbrechtfriendlyhouse told me they wanted to honor me with the Shining Star Award this year - celebrating my sobriety and my choice to be vocal about it, I was honored to say the least.
What they've done for women's recovery from addiction is most admirable. I only wish I would have known about them back when I was struggling, and maybe I would've gotten sober sooner.
Regardless, I don't regret my drunken past, but more importantly, i don't regret taking the chance to get sober. ?
