Sad to hear of the passing of Umberto Lenzi, one of the great Italian directors of genre cinema. He was a huge inspiration for “The Green Inferno” and made many excellent action films, gangster films, and horror films such as “Nightmare City.” I was lucky enough to meet him at the Basterds premiere in Rome and again here at the Rome Film Festival where I did a panel with many of my favorite maestros. Lenzi spent the last years of his life writing detective novels, which makes perfect sense as most all of his films have some investigative angle in the storyline. Sad to see him go.
