#LondonArt || @belleannee says... You’ve got 6 days left to see the @テート・ギャラリー Modern’s exhibit #SoulOfANation: Art in the Age of Black Power and we’d recommend not waiting until the last minute. The exhibit explores the role of black artists in the United States over a 20-year period starting at the height of the American civil rights movement in 1963. The artists might be new to you but their works will leave their indelible mark. Go in search of Bobby Swale’s “Superman” painting and Lorraine O’ Grady's 35-year-old “Art is....” which bares an eerie resemblance to today’s fascination with Instagram photos (they are actually outtakes from a performance art piece that encouraged onlookers - primarily people of color - to consider themselves works of art while also challenging the colour bias in the Art world). Lastly don’t miss Dana Chandler’s “Fred Hampton’s Door” the haunting ode to the murder of a sleeping black man by police officers in 1969. It is a heavy exhibit, but it is well curated, timely and important. It makes you think, a lot. And isn’t that what art is all about? || ? @daveburt || #thisislondon #londonreviewed
