@francois_dhaene, the winner of this year’s UTMB, is in California getting ready to attempt a fastest known time on the legendary John Muir Trail. The 359km long route has a total ascent of 14630m and can be summed up to 10 long climbs and steep downhills.
“Discovering my needs in sleep, food supply, and other issues as they come, will be fun and motivates me. I will have to adapt myself to the situation, listen to my body and my friends who can advise me from time to time as I’m not sure that during the 80 hours of the race, I will be lucid all the time,” he says.
François and his team had to apply for permits six months in advance to be able to cross the six national parks along the route.
“Departure will have to be on October 14, whatever the weather conditions. It is part of the game and I really intend to respect those local rules,” says François.
