Dear Social Media,
We are all guilty of it, aren't we? Posting glamorized versions of our lives, as if to tell the outside world, "look at my perfect life." Yet, despite the efforts to put our best faces forward, the criticism of the outside world still pours in. Shielded by the armor of the internet's anonymity, naysayers are the first to flock your way.
"Do you have cancer?"
"She's gay right?"
"Are you a guy?" "Bald girls are so hot." "Ugly."
"Kill yourself."
To the girls who tell me I'm "brave" over a haircut, I'm not.
To the guys who deduce me to a fetish, I don't want your shirtless pictures. From the outside, you can't begin to know me.
I am Olivia. I am a survivor.
A survivor of rape.
A survivor of mental illness.
A survivor of abuse.
Above all, I am me. Not perfect, but beautiful all the same. My mission in life is to spread acceptance, both of others and self, and to remind others that just because you don't fit in, doesn't mean you're living wrong.
