I had a conversation recently that's stuck with me. About how in times of strife and heartache, art matters more than ever. Love too, of course. But art gives us a place to go. Something to look at and decipher. A puzzle to solve. It puts our critical thinking skills to the test and simultaneously moves us in ways we don't always understand, but feel. Art pushes boundaries and often increases our world view. It can teach us empathy. It can erase "the other." It matters. • So you can imagine my joy at being asked to collaborate on some work with one of my favorite artists, @juanazulay, a while back. Just the other day he sent me this animation that @pandagunda made of one of our photos. I love it. And I asked him how they came up with it. His response? "You said something while we were brainstorming... When it all boils down it, love is the root of everything. Sometimes getting there is ugly. Messy. Hard. But it's under everything that is good." • When all the crap, and drawn lines, and boxes we put people in, and arbitrary boarders get melted down, we're left with the root of the root. The thing we all share. The thing we can all give freely. Our hearts. • This little piece of art -- that I didn't even know was being made out of a photograph I happened to be a part of -- just reminded me of that. And I'm grateful. ? • Happy Sunday everyone. • Credits: photo x animation: @juanazulay x @pandagunda. Agency: @maavven. Wardrobe: @flavialowenstein + @leshabitudes
