If you are lucky you may have had a teacher like my Oakwood Elementary school librarian, Annyce McCann. Mom McCann, as I called her, did not see me as a rowdy little girl or as a daydreamer or even as the middle of the Garner Girls. She saw me as ME and taught me all kinds of things about myself--that I was creative, that imagination is to be celebrated, that I was worthy of her time and attention and that books hold the whole world. Today is a day to reach out and thank the special teachers in your life for helping you to become…YOU. Thank you, Mom McCann-- your care and extra attention changed my life and I am sure I am one of a hundred former students who would say the same.
