Your fellow Americans (yes, President Trump, Puerto Ricans are Americans too) are appalled at the unmitigated gall of the president to hurl insults at your local leaders ([they] “want everything to be done for them”) on Twitter and to bring up your debt (this from a man whose companies have filed bankruptcy six times) amid a natural disaster that has crippled your island. And to add insult to the aforementioned injuries, he made an appearance in San Juan today and compared the deaths during Hurricane Katrina, which numbered just under 2K, with the deaths from Hurricane Irma, which currently stands at 16 and called Katrina a “real catastrophe.” . . He went on to complain, “I hate to tell you, Puerto Rico, that you’ve thrown our budget a little out of whack because of all the money we’ve spent on Puerto Rico.” . . Did he say that to Texas and Florida? No. . . The tone deafness of this president is stunning. Or maybe he actually has no empathy for people who are suffering. His fellow Americans, no less. . . Puerto Rico, we are so sorry for the suffering you are going through. The storm was horrible. Devastating. The recovery should not be more of the same. Americans on the mainland are concerned about each and every one of you and we will do everything in our power to help you rebuild your lives and livelihoods. . .
