@ケイティ・ペリー’s 4th major label album, “Witness,” has been her least commercially successful and her most artistically confused. Take “Bon Appétit,” the album’s second single, a discoesque club song featuring the rat-tat-tat Atlanta rap trio @Migos. @ケイティ・ペリー is somewhere in there, but her voice is the least essential part of the song. And in the video, she’s manhandled like dough by a gaggle of chefs, then covered in vegetables before getting dumped in a caldron and basted. That’s hard to replicate onstage. But when #KatyPerry came to @thegarden last night, she gamely tried, finishing her performance of the song draped on an oversize leaf, with dancers dousing her in powder with huge salt and pepper shakers. Despite all of her achievements, @ケイティ・ペリー knows that extramusical assistance is what makes the music really sing. That’s because she perceives pop as ecstatic experience. Last night, when @chadbatka took this photo, #KatyPerry was joined by Left Shark, a character from her 2015 Super Bowl performance — a reminder that she’s been deep-diving into plasticity for some time now.
