While driving across the highlands in interior Iceland this evening we watched as the auroras lit up the skies for hours. It was impossible to drive 10 minutes up the road without pulling over to shoot photos. Just before arriving at our hotel we ran across this thermal plant, it made for some interesting foreground under the colorful skies!Iceland is a pioneer in the use of geothermal energy for space heating, over 87% of the countries hot water and heating needs are met through geothermal energy and only .01% from fossil fuels.
