The Duke of Cambridge this afternoon attended a reception for the Metropolitan and City Police Orphans Fund. The Duke is Patron of the charity which provides financial support to children of officers who have died in service or after service. The Orphans Fund began in 1870 initially as an orphanage, and in 1937 when the orphanage closed the charity became the present fund which has supported more than 15,000 children. At the reception, The Duke presented a series of awards and scholarships to young people who are benefiting from the Fund. HRH also spent time meeting families and some of the hundreds of children who are currently being supported by the charity before joining them for a group photo. ?PA
