Her voice is such a good way to experience this book...now narratives about the dark side of fame seem like the norm but I can't imagine the courage it took back then to disrupt fantasies of public life to share a story of depression and addiction and how easily working in entertainment makes for feelings of existential lack. The odds of a second-generation movie star, when there had been so few and the film industry was still so young, being that incisive and witty and needing to acknowledge the ridiculousness of it all, seem so slim...oh I just love her.
