The @lacountyfd’s Urban Search and Rescue team deployed to the earthquake-ravaged country of Mexico on Wednesday, as part of @USAID's elite Disaster Assistance Response Team. A team of 67 members was sent, including firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, a doctor, surgeon and structural engineers. They are bringing along five canines, and 62,000 pounds of equipment and medical supplies. The group has practiced for the exact scene that is playing out in Mexico following the devastating quake. The "Break and Breach" team will focus on breaking apart the rubble with jackhammers, picks and hand tools, as well as searching for and rescuing victims.
