Three kinds of trolls were very present in my upbringing: the Russ dolls, the giant kind that my mom insisted lived in the mountains where she went skiing growing up in Norway, and Tove Jansson’s MOOMIN. We watched the cartoon in Norwegian whenever we visited her family and all the same comics from her childhood were still in their apartment. And we had a board game about the ghosts. Little My, pictured here in my Moomin jewelry box, is a human, but def has the most troll-like personality, which is why I've always identified with her.
