I have to thank Will my @mercedesbenzuk driver for advising me to ditch the faux fur fuzzies that I've been wearing. Yes they're 100% fake but the look of them would probably have set the PETA protestors off As it was, even without the faux fur, whilst entering one show, someone did manage to spit in my ear. I think they were aiming for the face. Or maybe someone else? The spit weirdly wasn't as bad as the cries of "Shame on you !" ringing in my ears. Like having a teacher tell you off in front of your classmates and you get all hot and embarrassed When I spoke to @jessc_m @guardianfashion she made a good point that it didn't seem like it's fur they are protesting against but fashion itself and the excess of our industry Why else would they so vocally voice their protest outside shows of designers who don't really use fur during a spring/summer season? In which case maybe the conversation can be better articulated elsewhere? ** EDIT ** Correcting the above, it was not a protest organised by PETA but an independent one by protestors lobbying to have fur banned at LFW. I welcome debate below but please no personal barbs - you don't know me, and I you. Let's stick to the topic? And my personal stance is I don't wear real fur and I'm in favour of LFW considering a ban of it in the future especially when retailers are banning it. @netaporter is a good example. If nobody sells it, it doesn't really need to be on the runway The post was really more about my observation of how violent the protest seemed especially when people (who don't wear fur or support it) felt scared to go into venues. A round table dialogue with designers, BFC and media could perhaps be more productive.
