Happiest Birthday @danfredinburg. @nialauryn said it perfectly this morning. "I wish we were spending your 36th birthday in these bodies, wearing costumes, on a crazy adventure." And in a fold in space time, I know that we are.

Nine days ago she and I were in Alaska together, and it was our last day. Every day of our adventure was a countdown to it, and the drum beat of our purpose grew louder each day. We were going to Denali. It was your favorite mountain. It was to be the finale of your seven summits. You slept under a topographical map of her. And you never made it. So we were hellbent on going and kissing the sky and waving hello to you, together.

Our guides warned us that Denali is visible less than 20 days per year. She has her own weather system. The Ruth Glacier is often impassible. We could feel you laughing and so we said, "trust us. We have help today." And we went.

Flying through the spires on the way to the park, and listening to our friend Desi talk about the climbers who travel from around the world to climb in Alaska got the goosebumps going. As we approached Denali the Ruth Glacier magically cleared, and the sunlight danced with our heli, popping in and out of the cloud cover.

Every time we made a turn, the clouds parted. The sun came out more and more, and before we knew it, we were all weeping and laughing. The joy at seeing your everlasting sense of humor and missing your enormous physical presence, simultaneously, took over. We could taste our tears as we laughed and shouted "HI DANIMAL!"

The heli passed 10,000 feet and turned to the right. And there was the peek. Massive and breathtaking, over the clouds. "She came out for you. Your help worked," our pilot said. "Yes, yes he did," we said.
