I want to address this serious subject of vets bringing up suicide and cyber bullying when we try to educate the public about the harmful effects of declawing or when we shine light on the unethical ways that vets are going about declawing. This is a very concerning trend by some in the veterinary profession.
This post was by a vet on this cartoon that is all about shedding light on how horrible declawing is and NOT about cyber bullying. (The cartoon was posted by Cole and Marmalade.)
Suicide is a serious subject and it shouldn't be used to deflect from the real issue at hand which is declawing is inhumane, harmful, and wrong.
I'm real tired of people in the vet profession playing the victim game and using cyber bullying and suicide when we are simply trying to help end this barbaric procedure.
I recently reached out to a vet in an email, asking him if he tells his clients that he is amputating the whole toe bone in a kinkajou when he declaws them. I was concerned because one of his clients posted online, "only his nails were lasered off. His toes are intact" about her declawed kinkajou. I received a generic response from the vet practice that included reminding me about the suicide rates in vets and included was cyber bullying as one of the reasons. Another example was when a semi-famous vet played the cyber bullying victim game after I respectfully reached out to him to ask him some serious questions about declawing.
