A print from my show at the Dali International Photo Festival - Erhai Lake, the way things were in 1989 when I first visited. I was following the #Mekong River for @ナショナルジオグラフィック from source to mouth and spent a week here shooting as Erhai is a main feeder to the Mekong. Foreigners were not yet permitted to travel in Yunnan and no tourism existed. Fishermen and farmers from the Bai Minority inhabited small villages along its shores. You would be hard pressed to find many fishermen today as tourism has taken over as the major money earner as in so many other scenic bodies of water in China. The mild climate, clean air and pure waters have made Dali a huge tourist attraction. The exhibition closes on August 23.
