#Repost w/ @TIME Magazine・At least three people were killed in Charlottesville on Aug. 12 after clashes between white nationalists and counter-protesters turned violent. The white nationalists had assembled to protest plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. During the afternoon, a car plowed into a group of counter-demonstrators marching through the downtown area, before backing out and speeding away. ⠀
⠀
Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe did not mince words following the unrest: “I have a message to all the white supremacists and the Nazis that came into Charlottesville today. Our message is plain and simple: Go home.” He added: "Shame on you. You pretend that you're patriots, but you are anything but a patriot."⠀
