With 280 hp and 385 Nm of torque, the M104 was a powerhouse engine in its day. It was used in a variety of vehicles, but is most well-known in the first production Mercedes-AMG, the C 36 AMG. Mercedes-Benz's 2.8-liter engine was the foundation for the M104, and AMG left its mark by enlarging the bore to 91.0 millimeters and increasing the stroke from 73.5 to 92.4 millimeters. The sport sedan featuring this engine made the sprint from zero to 100 in 6.7 seconds, an impressive feat at the time.
