From the moment she came into our lives, Mariann Mayberry has forever been a ‘home fire’ for her Steppenwolf family. Her soul felt to us that it must have been composed by the best angels, gracing each of us with such a deeply comforting warmth, kindness and abiding love for life and her friends that it is heart breakingly difficult to imagine Mariann gone from our sides.
Her unique artistry exuded all of that and more. We will never forget her indelible, inhabited performances that somehow, magically, commingled a stunning range of human nature; truthfulness, kindness and toughness, wisdom and innocence, sweetness and ferocity, sublime mischief and inspiring tenacity were all at her command.
Mariann always lit a path for her colleagues to strive to be better artists. Having had the gift of being in her orbit, I know that one of her precious legacies will be that we will continue to strive to be better humans.
