#neverthelessshepersisted - John McCain is trending all over social media today when he loudly said “no” against the Senate GOP’s Health Care Freedom Act. BUT LET US BE REMINDED it was TWO WOMAN Senators @senlisamurkowski and @sensusancollins who stood consistently in opposition to these most recent attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (without a replacement) which would leave millions of Americans without insurance. Murkowski was not only openly bullied over Twitter by Trump but was also threatened by a male colleague in the days leading up to the vote. In politics there is little reward for doing the right thing so it makes what they did more impressive. They saved their constituents from the uncertainty of life without health insurance. Women are amazing leaders. Murkowski and Collins, both Republicans, had the courage to stand up for their convictions against their own party, because it was the right thing to do. Huge respect to these two brave, forceful, powerful women. They voted for the people. Ill leave you with part of Susan Collins statement: "Millions of women across the country rely on @plannedparenthood for family planning, cancer screening, and basic preventive health care services. Denying women access to Planned Parenthood not only runs contrary to our goal of letting patients choose the health care provider who best fits their needs, but it also could impede timely access to care. If Planned Parenthood were defunded, other family planning clinics in Maine, including community health centers, would see a 63 percent increase in their patient load. Some patients would need to drive greater distances to receive care, while others would have to wait longer for an appointment. Let me be clear that this is not about abortion. Federal law already prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk. This is about interfering with the ability of a woman to choose the health care provider who is right for her. This harmful provision should have no place in legislation that purports to be about restoring patient choices an
