Last week, I put a Kindness Jar in the middle of the kitchen table and every night at dinner, I asked Mazzy and Harlow to tell me one caring thing that they did that day so that we could add them to the jar. At the end of the week, I sat them down and pulled out a pile of papers of my own. I told them that in addition to what they had added to the jar, I had been recording the caring things they did that I had noticed too. I can't tell you how much of a difference it made, especially with Mazzy, for her to see that I took note (literally) of little things, like when she shared a toy with Harlow, thanked a friend's mom for a playdate or helped her cousin put on her shoes.
