Along with the Gion-bayashi melody played with flutes, drums,and gongs, spectators get fascinated by the charm of the lit lanterns. The video shows the famous fall of lanterns on the Kanko-hoko during the yoiyama. Komagata lanterns decorating the hoko are dropped at the same time, in preparation for the next day’s procession of yama-hoko. This quirky tradition draws cheers from spectators.
