They told me I wasn't pretty… I Won Beauty Pageants.
They told me I wasn't fast-became an All-American Sprinter
They told me I had a bad New England Accent-I became a TV HOST
They told me I wasn't smart-I got letters from Columbia University Science department
They told me I wasn't a good writer-I became a journalist/newspaper reporter.
They told me I wasn't funny-Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker, Kevin Hart, Rickey Smiley, Guy Tory and a few others I've worked with/interacted with said otherwise.
They said I was too old to model at 23-at 43 I shot my LATEST mag cover.
They said I was boring,,,, but they stay talking.
They said Id never amount to much… Id like to know what their definition of "MUCH" is.
I'm far from perfect… but that's ok cause perfect is boring. My point is… people will say A LOT of things… especially those not brave enough to go for it themselves. Pay them no mind because they do NOT count. Anyone NEGATIVE does not count. They are NEGATIVE…. less than… a non factor. Now the positive folks… they are something else. They have the courage to encourage and support others.. Thank you for FORCING Me to find another way there time and time and time again. Thank you for FORCING me to challenge myself and to never take the easy route. Thank you for FORCING me NOT to get complacent. Thank you for FORCING me to try things I didn't think about trying before…and that leading to something amazing! I know your intent wasn't to help me but to hurt me… but God didn't allow THAT to happen. Why would he??? And to those special ones… that have freely given love and support… your kind words mean so much to me. They will NEVER be taken for granted. Now…. enough attention given to those that seek to tear down…and MORE to those that are here to build up!! There's no time like the present to make some fab things happen… so I say….. Lets GET IT!!!!!!!
