Getting on a board that’s barely 1/3 of the size in frigid lake water and being towed by a boat, is a whole other thing in itself. I have to say, I was stoked on it. First off, I was just happy to get into a standing position, I’ve tried it once before a while back and never even got up. That feeling of floating on water never gets old, and to be able to go on for several minutes, whereas in the ocean it’s typically only a matter of seconds with each ride, I can see how people get hooked. Today we didn’t have much time to spare so I was only able to get a couple shots at this. I didn’t let go of the rope because my friend who went before me didn’t, and I just emulated this motion without even knowing. I soon came to realize that it’s actually so much harder to hold onto the rope and wake and keep balance (as you can see my kook stance here), that’s why people let go, duh. I also didn’t know that the boat could make a bigger wake to surf on. Lessons learned, next time I’m prepared! The last biggest thing this experience gave me- the desire to finally get on a short board in the ocean. I have so much respect for the sea and honestly have feared trying it because I know how much I’m gonna have to eat it in the beginning. But hey, nothing great ever comes from easy.
