A few weeks ago we went to Mexico to this hotel I had found that I was so excited about. There weren't many guests so I was excited to run through the halls and act like a crazy person, Home Alone style. After the 3rd hour there I said to Smokey "hey, isn't the music a little loud and haven't they already played this Tom Petty cover twice?" Turns out this beautiful hotel had this weird commitment to somber/sad music that they said was relaxing but, it was just emo aggro. I had seen this report on North Korea and, in Pyongyang, everyday at like 5am, they blast eerie music through the city to wake up the people. When you are drawing parallels between North Korea and your Mexican resort, it's an issue. I went to bed and, at 8am the next morning, it was like a Lana Del Rey cover, and they had managed to make it even slower and sadder, somehow. The music permeated the room walls and windows so intrusively, its melancholy tone so obtrusive... I went downstairs and asked what time the funeral was. Front desk lady didn't get the joke. Point is, after 4 months of looking forward to a vacation, we checked out in less than 24 hours, but not before I took this dope selfie So this 4th of July, I say fuck plans, we'll just go and see what happens.
