It's the top. I'm looking around and panoramically it's mountain peaks as far as the eye can see: epic pitches with roiling skin and ancient mythologies all bound together in what seems like a hallucination. I don't want to leave. Let me stay. I don't want to go back down. It's harder to breathe but I like the lightheadedness; I like how I'm swimming in one of Ray Bradbury's creations, or staring into a Jimmy Chin adventure. I watched my buddy Dean Potter leap from a peak like this, soar, and trek back up to do it again. He, once, broke his leg climbing and spent two days dragging himself home. That's when he started base jumping. I'm looking around, almost 50, and i suddenly understand everything I never understood for decades.
