Dieses wurde 1930 anlässlich des 500. Todestages des litauischen Großfürsten Vytautas gestiftet. --- Honourable award for her European dedication: Today, Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė decorated Chancellor Merkel with the highest medal of her country: the Grand Cross of the Order of Vytautas the Great, which was instituted in 1930 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas the Great.
