Three friends walk into a bar…
Well, actually when Samantha, Stephen and Johnathan walked in…and it wasn’t a bar yet, but they had big dreams that this then old department store in Chicago could become @hopewellbrewing.

Hopewell was started by three friends who met in college, bonded over beer and dreamed of one day opening their own brewery. The bond grew so strong that Samantha and Stephen got married. Over the next 8 years, the three of them went off into completely different jobs where they learned business skills and eventually came back together to build their dream of Hopewell Brewery.

Other than the fact that they have the best beer in the city (in my opinion), the whole look of the space sets them apart. They have a taproom inside with giant windows where sunlight pours onto the white minimalist walls with walnut wooden finishes.

Samantha says, “With the taproom, we get to see people sit in the space we’ve created and enjoy the thing we’ve made; which is the most fulfilling part of why we do this.” The whole vibe of the place makes you rethink what the beer experience can be with a specific goal to check the ego around Craft Beer at the door. She says, “Our thought around Craft Beer is that it doesn’t have to be intellectualized all the time. Essentially we’re making a thing for people to enjoy. Something that you can gather around with the people you want to be with.” Samantha notes that almost every day, groups of people from nearby businesses come in at Happy Hour and buy a round of drinks for their employees with their @americanexpress cards. She says, “The thing we made helped facilitate these connections and seeing that is the best gift.”
