Last winter, David Sedaris spent a week in Hawaii, mostly signing his autograph on 5,000 sheets of blank paper and watching episodes of “Intervention.” The show caused him to think of his mother: a lady who never wore pants (only skirts and dresses) or left the house without makeup.
