Last year when my book, You Gotta Get Bigger Dreams, came out, I did an event at the New York Public Library in Bryant Park NYC and at the signing afterwards a man came up to me and said he wanted me to write something on his arm so he could have it tattooed. I felt pretty put on the spot - it's quite a lot of pressure trying to think, in an instant, of something that will stay on a person's body forever!
So I trusted my gut and just wrote what I thought would be the most useful, positive and important message I could leave marked on another human.
It says a lot about my life that I had forgotten all about that interaction until last night, when I was leaving the stage door after my show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, Australia and that same man was waiting for me, with his now permanent tattoo of my message emblazoned on his arm.
And as you can see I am so happy that the message he will always carry from me is 'No shame!' because I truly believe shame is the root and cause of so much of the world's ills. Sure it's hard to get rid of - we are encouraged to welcome it in from the moment we're born - but when you can push it away, life becomes so much easier and happier.
