You are not invisible, You are seen. Belonging and love, I believe are our first instincts as human beings. We have created and live in a world of rejection. We believe that we can dictate where others belong. This idea is the core of the story and Short Film of "Welcome Back". The character of Carmen leaves her first home of Mexico, to find a new one in the United States and finally is rejected by both. To me, this feeling, must be something that can break the kernel of a spirit. To feel that you do not belong to any of the countries to which you have given your life, to the lands in which you have cultivated your being. That is the most profound impact that we are not understanding as a society, as countries, as citizens of the world. We must understand that to take away belonging from others is to harm them deeply. We are creating generations of "rejected" and "invisible" people. Beings that feel unwanted and in constant emotion of abandonment. If we do not realize the serious harm this creates for us all, we will continue to face a world of pain and violence. This is the very reason as to why I wanted to be able to tell this story. I'm convinced that we have and must begin to connect with one another dearly, profoundly and humanly. Let others know that they are loved, that they belong, that they are seen. This short film, for me, is a way to tell people who are less fortunate and struggling to find a home in this world, that we belong to each other, that we are reflections of each other, that they are not invisible and that I with many others see them. You are loved. You are seen. You belong. @welcomeback_film #iamimmigrant #immigration #belonging
