In the mid-1950s, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection artist Tanaka Atsuko staged a series of “performance paintings,” live-action events with light bulbs as well as paint. Inspired by these events, Tanaka’s “Painting” (1960) evokes an intricate network of wires and bulbs that reflect her interest in the technology of wiring systems and lights. “Painting” is on view as part of Guggenheim Abu Dhabi’s second collection show #TheCreativeAct at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
