The United Kingdom is reeling from violence once again after a vehicle plowed into a crowd of pedestrians on London Bridge, killing multiple people, and stabbings took place at the nearby Borough Market. Police are investigating the incidents as terror attacks, British Prime Minister Theresa May has confirmed. Witnesses told The Associated Press that a white van struck as many as six people on the bridge on Saturday. One witness at the scene described bodies being “strewn over the pavement.” More than one person has died, police told HuffPost. “He swerved right round me and then hit about five or six people," said Holly Jones, a reporter for the BBC who was on the bridge at the time of the incident. "He hit about two people in front of me and then three behind." Two people were stabbed at a restaurant at Borough Market when a man with a “massive knife” entered, a witness told CNN. Borough Market is one of the largest and oldest food markets in London. “Someone said, ‘What is going on?’ and one of the people running said, ‘There is a man with a knife up there and he is coming this way,’” a witness told CNN. “There was complete panic as everyone ran to the back of the restaurant and crouched down trying to hide themselves from view." Jack Applebee, the owner of Applebee’s Fish Market in Borough Market, said he was smoking outside his restaurant when a woman ran by screaming, “Someone’s running around stabbing people!” He ran inside his restaurant to warn his 50 or so diners, the Wall Street Journal reported. Seconds later, three attackers appeared outside the business’ windows, wearing belts with “black canisters around their upper torsos." “They looked to come in, and for some reason turned to carry on down the street,” Applebee said. Authorities confirmed that they also responded to reports of a stabbing in Vauxhall, a residential and commercial area just over 2 miles southwest of London Bridge. They later said the incident was not connected to the attacks on the bridge or at Borough Market. - Jesselyn Cook and Sebastian Murdoch for HuffPost
