As a photographer I always enjoy giving the occasional dental exam to apex predators. This #leopardSeal unabashedly giving my camera a face full of smiling teeth. Admittedly I would have been a lot more scared in a situation like this had my friend @paulnicklen not prepped me before getting in the water that these beautiful animals will curiously open their mouths in front of the reflective dome of your camera, perhaps trying to communicate or simply just being playful. Swimming in the icy waters with these incredible creatures is something I will never forget. It's sad to see first hand how these animals are living in an ever changing environment. Over the last two decades, the Antarctica Peninsula region has warmed significantly, directly contributing to substantial ice loss, leaving with it a lot of unanswered questions to what this means for the abundance of animals that live here. It's directly affecting ocean sea rise globally and the need to make appropriate environmental decisions has never been more critical. I'm sincerely hoping and praying that the administration in my country will make sensible choices and stay IN the Paris agreement.
