The photographer Andre D. Wagner (@photodre) moved from Omaha to Bushwick, Brooklyn, in 2012. “One of the things that I noticed quickly,” he said, is “how you can see the affection of people out in public because so many things happen on the streets.” @photodre took these photos in April as he roamed Brooklyn, from Bedford-Stuyvesant to Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg to Bushwick. Keston, left, and Cedric, both 11, live in the photographer’s neighborhood, and he photographs them often. He took this picture around the time that Jordan Edwards, a 15-year-old in Texas, was fatally shot by a police officer. “They are not far from that age,” @photodre said. “It hits so close to home: That could have easily been you, that could have easily been Keston. So that American flag holds so much weight.” Swipe left to see a few more images by @photodre, and visit the link in our profile to see the full collection.
