Monday: Zongzi #粽子 filled with sticky rice and red bean, yoghurt from Mongolia with purple dragonfruit and kiwi and a third infusion of Emperor's Breakfast, which is a single estate tea from Fujian and one of my favourite to drink in the morning ??

#Zongzi are traditionally eaten during Dragon Boat Festival ? and their origin is a story that is ever so typically Chinese. A poet and scholar, Qu Yuan (around 200BC) sacrificed himself in a river by drowning. In a desperate attempt to save him, local villagers raced out on boats and beat drums ? to keep away evil spirits ? After his death he appeared to his friends and asked them to wrap rice in triangular silk parcels (now made using leaves) Qu Yuan is a symbol of patriotism in China and in 2008 the festival was made into a public holiday ??
